Nan Gillett passed away yesterday morning after a long fight against pancreatic cancer. She was mother to two of my lifelong friends - Bob and Victor.
I remember going to birthday parties at her house when I was 5 years old.
I remember her walking down to the football field to check on Victor when he was injured in a game.
I remember her frowning at me with disappointment after I peeled out in front her house one night. I never did that again.
I remember bumping into her at Bob's restaurant (Si Bon) in Austin in 1997. She said she was so glad to know that I was living in the same city as Bob so that I could "keep an eye on him".
I remember seeing her at Victor's wedding in 2002... she was so glad to see me that she cried out my name and embraced me.
I remember a lot of great things about her. I just loved her and I thought she was an absolutely amazing mother and person. How fortunate I was to be a small part of her life. My heart and thoughts are with Bob, Victor, Pam, Lisa, Valerie and their significant others and now massive list of children.
