Last Saturday I travelled from Frankfurt to San Francisco on United.
At the start of the flight, the Flight Attendant announced that beer was available at the price of $5 American or 4 Euros.
$5 is about 3.25 Euros. But the price in Euros was 4 Euros.
Arbitrage!
300 people on the flight. Assume 20% drinking 1 beer (Germans). That's 60 beers sold. If I bought beer at $5, I could resell them for 3.75 Euros and make .5 Euros or about $.75 profit per beer x 60 people or about $45.
All I needed for my master plan to succeed was to acquire 60 beers from the flight attendant at the start of the flight.
I asked her for a cup of water, then asked if I could buy 60 beers at once. She said no. I then offered to split my profits with her (about $20). No go.
Oh well.
